Heat Pump Pool Heating

A heat pump works similarly to a reverse air-conditioner: it extracts heat energy from the surrounding air and transfers it into your pool water. Because it moves heat rather than generating it, it uses far less electricity than conventional resistance heaters — typically 4–5 kW of heat output for every 1 kW of electricity consumed (a COP of 4–5).

How it works

  1. The heat pump draws in ambient air over an evaporator coil
  2. Refrigerant absorbs heat from the air and is compressed
  3. The hot refrigerant transfers heat into the pool water via a heat exchanger
  4. Cooled refrigerant cycles back and the process repeats
